Atienza Supports The Disqualification Case Against BBM, Heres What He Say

Former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should be barred from running for president, according to vice presidential candidate Lito Atienza, following the filing of a petition to nullify the late strongman's son's presidential campaign in the 2022 elections.

Atienza feels that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) should investigate the grounds of the petition to invalidate Marcos Jr.'s certificate of candidacy in an exclusive interview with Politiko Live's Balitang Sapol.

“If you don’t pay taxes, you are a violator, a criminal at that. And you should not be allowed to run for any office not even the presidency, not even as a councilor of Laoag,” he explained.

According to Atienza, no one should be exempted from the law.

“He should be disqualified if you ask me ah. I don’t know how the judges will rule on these cases but I hope they are fair to the Filipino nation. Nobody should be exempted. You evade the payment of taxes, you should be disqualified. Because you did not only commit a crime. You committed a crime against the nation,” he said.

When asked if the COMELEC will evaluate the petitions, Atienza stated:

“I’m a realist in Filipino politics especially, I am not expecting much from the COMELEC. Hindi ako ma-shock kung i-abswelto nila. Kaya dapat ang tao matuto na. Gamitin natin yung kapangyarihan sa balota.”

Earlier today, the camp of the former senator dismissed the issue and tagged it as a “predictable nuisance petition.”
