LOOK: Petitioner offered Wikipedia articles as evidence versus BBM

Wikipedia URLs were used as "proof" in a petition to have former Senator Bongbong Marcos' presidential campaign canceled.

On November 3, rumors arose claiming that officials from several political parties petitioned the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to void the former president son's candidacy.

Marcos stood for president in 2022 and was one of the candidates. In an interview, the politician stated that he is unconcerned by the petition and that he will continue his campaign.

On November 4, social media figure Thinking Pinoy, a renowned supporter of the present administration, posted about the Bongbong Marcos petition. The petition "provided Wikipedia articles as proof," according to TP.

The blogger claimed in his piece that Atty. Teddy Te was the one who petitioned the Comelec to reject the son of former President Ferdinand Marcos' presidential bid.

The stated lawyer is presently a professor at UP Law and the director of the Office of Legal Aid. The Wikipedia site is well-known for allowing anybody to modify it. There have been multiple cases when material on the site was inaccurate, such as on the website of comedienne-actress Pokwang, who claimed to have been "crowned Miss Universe 2001."
Aside from the two Wikipedia entries, the petition highlighted opinion columns, Rappler pieces, foreigner write-ups, and "some link from a website whose domain name includes "nothinginparticular," according to Thinking Pinoy.
According to a netizen who claims to be a college professor, he does not allow his pupils to use Wikipedia links since "it is not a source."
